HTML for Fun and Profit

Starts soon. Sign up now.

A lot of what we look at all day on screens is held together by a very simple language called HTML. It was invented as part of the whole concept of the web.

If you know HTML, you can make a web page.

Format of course

We work independently on our own time, but we follow the same learning materials, assignments and pace. When you have completed an assignment, you post evidence to the group website so that we get to see your really cool website in progress.

Every week there will be a new assignment where you build a simple web page.

To learn how, we'll be going through freeCodeCamp's materials: Introduction to Basic HTML & HTML5.

Time commitment

4 weeks. Approx. 1 - 3 hours per week total.

Pre-requisites

You have to be pretty comfortable with using a computer. You will be totally fine if you are comfortable with the following:

  • moving files around your computer with Finder or Windows Explorer
  • opening files into different programs. For example, if your computer wants to open an image file in one program, do you know how to open it into a different program instead?
  • knowing where files are stored in the file system. For example, when you open a Word document do you know what folder the file is saved in? Or, do you think of the file as being stored "in" Word? If you are the former, you are good to go.

If you aren't comfortable with those things, let me know and perhaps we can get a basics of operating systems program going.
